چکیده

If galactic halos contain stellar remnants, the infra-red flux from the remnant progenitors would contribute to the opacity of multi-TeV γ-rays. The multi-TeV γ-ray horizon is established to be at a redshift z > 0.034 by the observation of the blazar Mkn501 . By requiring that the optical depth due to γγ −→ ee be less than one for a source at z = 0.034 we limit the cosmological density of stellar remnants, Ωrm ≤ (2−4)×10 h 70 (h70 is the Hubble constant in units of 70 km sec −1 Mpc) and thus strongly constrain stellar remnants as a cosmologically significant source of dark matter. Searching for galactic cosmic ray pevatrons with multi–TeV gamma rays and neutrinos

The recent HESS detections of supernova remnant shells in TeV γ-rays confirm the theoretical predictions that supernova remnants can operate as powerful cosmic ray accelerators. If these objects are responsible for the bulk of galactic cosmic rays, then they should accelerate protons and nuclei to 10eV and beyond, i.e. act as cosmic PeVatrons. The model of diffusive shock acceleration allows, u...

Galactic sources of high energy neutrinos

The undisputed galactic origin of cosmic rays at energies below the so-called knee around 10eV implies an existence of a nonthemal population of galactic objects which effectively accelerate protons and nuclei to TeV-PeV energies. The distinct signatures of these cosmic accelerators are high energy neutrinos and γ-rays produced through hadronic interactions. While γ-rays can be produced also by...

TeV Neutrinos from SuperNova Remnants embedded in Giant Molecular Clouds

The recent detection of γ-rays with energy up to 10 TeV from dense regions surrounding some Supernova Remnants (SNR) provides strong, though still not conclusive, evidence that the nucleonic component of galactic Cosmic Rays is accelerated in the supernova outflows. Neutrino telescopes could further support the validity of such scenario by detecting neutrinos coming from the same regions. We re...

Constraints on cosmic-ray origin from TeV gamma-ray observations of supernova remnants

If supernova remnants (SNRs) are the site of cosmicray acceleration, the associated nuclear interactions should result in an observable flux of γ-rays for the nearest SNRs. Measurements of the TeV γ-ray flux from six nearby, radio-bright SNRs have been made with the Whipple Observatory imaging air Čerenkov telescope over the period September 1993 to June 1996. No significant emission has been d...

Se p 20 08 Cosmology from very high energy γ - rays

In this work we study how the cosmological parameter, the Hubble constant H0, can be constrained by observation of very high energy (VHE) γ-rays at the TeV scale. The VHE γ-rays experience attenuation by background radiation field through ee pair production during the propagation in the intergalactic space. This effect is proportional to the distance that the VHE γ-rays go through. Therefore th...
